We are excited to announce that the annual Ukrainian Day Festival is back this summer! Mark your calendars and join us for a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence
and Ukrainian Day
on August 22, 2021. This year, we are presenting a 𝐡𝐲𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 that will involve a diverse online program, self-guided components and a local in-person community gathering* (note that UCC-Alberta is sensitive to the constant changes and restrictions caused by the pandemic).

We will celebrate all things Ukrainian this year in a very unique way. UCC Alberta is partnering with various Ukrainian organizations to collaboratively mark the 𝟑𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐤𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞’𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 and 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲’𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬.
The virtual component of the festival will feature multiple segments and contributions from various groups in the Ukrainian community, such as our schools, youth groups, choirs, theatres, and dance ensembles in Alberta. This will include recorded original video performances and educational resources that showcase Ukraine’s quest for independence.
For the in-person community gathering, we will be hosting an outdoor zabava at Camp Bar-V-Nok at beautiful Pigeon Lake! Join us for a family-friendly, picnic-style concert from 2-4 pm which will feature Zabava y Koli, Ihor Bohdan, as well as other talented Ukrainian musicians from both Edmonton and Calgary. Supervised children’s activities will include teacher-led dance classes, face painting, a photobooth, and more. Tickets are available now!
The final art pieces are displayed in art installations at various locations across Edmonton and Calgary between August 21-25, 2021.
